Growth parameters and population structure of Aristeus antennatus (Decapoda, Penaeidae) in the south Tyrrhenian Sea (southern coast of Italy).

2011

Abstract The blue and red shrimp Aristeus antennatus (Risso, 1816) is one of the most important fishery resources in the Mediterranean Sea. Monthly samplings of blue and red shrimp from June 2006 to May 2007 were landed by the trawl fleet in two northwest Sicilian fishing harbours (San Vito Lo Capo and Terrasini). The carapace length (CL) frequency distribution of females ranged between 15.00 and 59.00 mm, whereas male CLs ranged between 17.00 and 34.00 mm. The estimated parameters of the Von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) for San Vito lo Capo females and males were: CL∞ = 65 mm, K = 0.58 y–1 and CL∞ = 41 mm, K = 0.71 y–1, respectively; while for Terrasini females and males these were:…

Characterization of Fusarium oxysporum populations by growth parameter evaluation in microtiter plates

1997

Trophic competition for the C source is the main mechanism involved in the interaction between pathogenic and non-pathogenic populations of Fusarium oxysporum. Therefore, a phenotypical characterization based on the growth characteristics of these populations will provide classical genotypical characterizations with additionnal information of ecological significance.

Influence of growth parameters and melt convection on the solid-liquid interface during RF-floating zone crystal growth of intermetallic compounds

2001

Abstract The influence of growth parameters and melt convection on the solid–liquid interface of the intermetallic compound Ni3Si grown by the RF-floating zone technique was investigated experimentally as well as numerically. Numerical simulations showed that the heat transfer is strongly influenced by the electromagnetically driven and Marangoni convections whereas both the buoyancy and feed rotation have a negligible effect. It was found experimentally that the inductor design, the rod diameter and the length of the molten zone influence the solid–liquid interface shape significantly. The electromagnetically driven convection increases dramatically with increasing zone length due to the r…

Biological characteristics of three Brachyuran crab species in the Lagoon of Elbibane, South-Eastern Tunisia

2016

This study is a first contribution to the knowledge of the biology of three crab species, Carcinus aestuarii, Eriphia verrucosa and Pachygrapsus marmoratus, occurring in the intertidal zone of Elbibane lagoon, south-eastern Tunisia. A total of 1264 individuals from the three brachyuran species were collected monthly from April 2010 until March 2011 and their reproduction and growth parameters were determined. The seasonal distribution of carapace width showed for the three species that males have always a greater size than females. The length-weight relationship showed in the three species a negative allometry in males, and in non-ovigerous females. The von Bertalanffy growth model (VBGF) p…
